“We don’t need him” – Tottenham star suffers setback as Spurs officials reject him over his inconsistency

Tottenham has recently transferred their young wingback, Djed Spence, to an Italian club, this was according to Italian football pundit Gianluca Di Marzio. Despite joining the Lilywhites in 2022, Spence accumulated only three minutes of playing time in the Premier League, largely due to fierce competition in the right-back position.

The English defender gained recognition during his time with his first senior club, Middlesbrough, amassing 70 appearances and earning the EFL Young Player of the Month in 2020. However, his career trajectory took a turn when he struggled to secure a consistent spot and was eventually loaned to Nottingham Forest in 2021.

Following his loan spell at Forest, Spence secured a permanent move to Tottenham, orchestrated by Spurs boss Antonio Conte. Despite the initial transfer, Spence faced challenges with injuries and limited playing time, leading to his contract termination and subsequent move to Genoa.

Conte, with a clear vision for his squad, deemed Spence surplus to requirements. In search of a reliable defender, Ange Postecoglou, the Genoa manager, opted for a proven figure, ultimately acquiring Radu Dragusin from Tottenham in exchange for Spence on loan.

The Romanian defender, Dragusin, agreed to personal terms with Spurs despite interest from Bayern Munich. The deal, valued at over €30 million, also saw Genoa benefit financially from the transaction.

Genoa, currently sitting 12th in Serie A with a less-than-impressive defensive record, will look to rebuild their squad with the addition of Dragusin. Meanwhile, Djed Spence anticipates consistent playing time and hopes to establish a permanent home.

For Tottenham fans, the arrival of Dragusin is a positive development, although concerns linger about the newcomer’s disciplinary record, reminiscent of Cristian Romero’s. As Genoa and Tottenham finalize their respective squad adjustments, the winter transfer window takes an intriguing turn for both clubs.
