In an interview with the Guardian, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted at the possibility of the North London club engaging in discussions for a sensational move to acquire Kylian Mbappé at the conclusion of the season.
Mbappé has conveyed his intention to depart Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in the upcoming summer transfer window. While clubs like Real Madrid are reportedly leading the race to secure his signature, Arteta has subtly suggested that Arsenal is not ruling out the prospect of landing the French sensation.
While it is widely anticipated that the Spanish giants will secure Mbappé’s services, Arteta’s remarks imply that Arsenal has not been excluded from the conversation. He hinted that Director Edu and the club’s owners may have already initiated talks regarding a potential move for Mbappé, although he personally has not been directly involved in any discussions thus far.

Arteta emphasized the importance of considering a player of Mbappé’s caliber, stating, “When there is a player of that calibre, we always have to be in the conversation.” However, regarding talks about signing Mbappé, he clarified, “I am not! Maybe Edu [the sporting director] and the owners are [in talks], but I am not in those conversations until the last stage.”
While the outcome remains uncertain, the notion that Arsenal is even contemplating such a move should uplift the club’s supporters, showcasing ambition in pursuing top talent like Mbappé.
Mbappé, widely regarded as one of the best players globally, has already achieved success at the international level, winning the World Cup with France in 2018. Now, he aims to conquer major trophies at the club level, particularly the UEFA Champions League, an accolade that has eluded him during his tenure at PSG. A potential move to a club like Real Madrid could present Mbappé with the opportunity to vie for this prestigious club title.
For Arsenal, acquiring a prolific scorer like Mbappé could significantly elevate their attacking prowess. With Gabriel Jesus enduring a relatively underwhelming season, the addition of Mbappé, who has amassed an impressive tally of 31 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances across all competitions, could be transformative for Arsenal’s offensive capabilities. Signing a player of Mbappé’s caliber on a free transfer would also represent a major coup for the club.
However, despite the excitement surrounding the prospect, a move to the Emirates remains highly improbable at this stage, with Mbappé expected to join Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window.
