Arsenal are reportedly in contact regarding the potential acquisition of an £85 million defender, who is also sought after by Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal Eyeing New Defender Among Four Key Summer Signings
Sporting director Edu is gearing up for another busy summer transfer window, following the club’s significant investment of over £200 million in new players last year.

£200,000-a-week Arsenal Star Engages in Pre-Summer Talks with European Club
Reports suggest that the upcoming transfer window could see Arsenal surpass their previous summer expenditure record. This comes after their strong Premier League campaign, where they narrowly missed out on the title to Manchester City on the final day.
Finishing the season with 89 points, Arsenal’s tally would have secured the league title in many previous seasons. Their attacking strength was evident as they scored over 90 goals, second only to Manchester City.
The 2023/2024 season marked a significant improvement from the previous year, raising hopes that Mikel Arteta might lead Arsenal to their first domestic title since 2004 in the next season.
Arsenal plans to support Arteta with four key summer signings, targeting a new goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and forward. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are central to Arsenal’s defense, but they lack depth beyond this pair.
With Ben White now excelling at right-back, Edu is considering acquiring another centre-back to provide cover for Saliba and Gabriel. Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon has been on Arsenal’s radar since the beginning of the year.
Additionally, Arsenal are interested in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. Both players would come at a significant cost, and now, another high-profile defender is being considered at the Emirates.
Arsenal in Talks to Sign Antonio Silva
Benfica’s Antonio Silva is the latest defender linked with Arsenal, following an impressive season in the Primeira Liga. According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have initiated discussions with Benfica about signing Silva, who is valued at around £85 million.
The 20-year-old made 31 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last season, drawing attention from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Silva is open to joining a top English club, which gives Edu a potential advantage. However, Silva would require assurances regarding playing time, a potential issue given the established partnership of Saliba and Gabriel at Arsenal.
Former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen praised Silva to Record in 2023, stating, “The boy will be a legend. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing, he has everything to be one of the best defenders in the world in a year or two.”
