Arsenal is currently in the final stages of negotiating a late-window deal to acquire Borja Mayoral, the striker from Getafe, according to sources at Football Insider.
In the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Bryan King, a well-connected former scout from Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Everton, disclosed that Mikel Arteta had expressed interest in signing the 26-year-old forward during the summer. Arteta has reportedly renewed this interest due to the activation of a release clause in Mayoral’s contract, which is valued at £17 million (€20 million), significantly less than Getafe’s £40 million asking price in the previous transfer window.

It has been reported that Arsenal actively pursued Mayoral last summer, but their bid was rejected. The Gunners are now keen on strengthening their striker department in January, as their recent matches have highlighted a lack of clinical finishing despite a solid approach play.
Arsenal has struggled to find the back of the net, managing only five goals in their last seven matches. Additionally, their current top scorer, Jesus, has only netted three times in the league this season.
In contrast, Mayoral has been enjoying an impressive run of form for Getafe in the 2023-24 season, registering 14 goals and one assist in 22 appearances. The Spanish striker began his career in Real Madrid’s academy, progressing to their first team in 2015. During his seven-year stint at Madrid, Mayoral scored seven goals in 33 appearances across various competitions.
Mayoral also gained valuable experience through successful loan spells at Wolfsburg, Levante, and Roma before joining Getafe on loan in January 2022. After playing a pivotal role in steering Getafe clear of relegation during his loan period, Mayoral made the move permanent in August 2022 by signing a five-year contract.
In a related development, there are reports of an Arsenal delegation jetting out, hinting at multiple deals expected to be finalized in the coming days. The club seems determined to address their striking concerns and strengthen the squad as they push forward in the ongoing Season.
