Inter Miami has officially welcomed another Barcelona legend, Luis Suárez, to their roster, expanding the ex-Barça stars’ presence in Major League Soccer. The club confirmed the signing with a post celebrating the addition of Suárez, who joins former teammates Messi, Busquets, and Alba in Fort Lauderdale.

The news, already circulating thanks to Fabrizio Romano, revealed Suárez’s one-year deal with a 2025 option. Speculation arose when Suárez bid farewell to Grêmio, his Brazilian club, following his decisive goal in their last home match, securing an early contract exit.

While details of the financial arrangements remain undisclosed, it’s believed Inter Miami utilized Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) to stay within the Designated Player threshold. The 2024 TAM fund, totaling $2.4 million USD per club, likely facilitated Suárez’s acquisition.

With Messi, Busquets, and Gregore as last season’s DPs and the departure of Josef Martínez, Miami had room for Suárez. Despite Commissioner Don Garber dismissing a fourth DP slot, head coach Tata Martino faces the challenge of managing Suárez’s playing time due to the veteran’s admitted use of pills and injections to cope with chronic knee pain.

Suárez, having showcased his enduring prowess in the Brazilian league, played over 50 games this season, contributing 24 goals and 17 assists. While the extent of Suárez’s impact in 2024 remains uncertain, Miami continues its transfer pursuits, reportedly eyeing former Whitecaps star Julian Gressel, recently released by the Columbus Crew after clinching his second MLS Cup.
