CONFIRMED – Manchester United and Arsenal officially signs a record breaking deal for acquisition of striker worth £18 million

According to a report from Standard Sport, the winter transfer window has brought potential opportunities for Arsenal and Manchester United as they are alerted to the availability of Newcastle United’s striker, Callum Wilson.

Newcastle United, despite a relatively quiet winter transfer window, might witness surprise departures due to the necessity of recouping funds to comply with the Premier League profit and sustainability rules. The club, under the ownership of Saudi’s Public Investment Fund, has spent over £400 million, prompting a need for player sales to avoid potential points deductions.

Standard Sport reports that Arsenal and Manchester United are aware of Wilson’s availability and could make a move this winter. The English striker might be allowed to depart the Magpies for a fee of £18 million.

Both Arsenal and United have struggled with goal production from their current strikers. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have collectively scored 12 goals for Arsenal this season, while at United, Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial have found the net only nine times. In their pursuit of bolstering their attacking options, the prospect of acquiring Wilson for £18 million is deemed enticing for both clubs.

Despite sharing minutes with Alexander Isak in the front line, the 31-year-old Wilson has managed to score eight goals this season. A regular role and the creative setups at Arsenal or United could potentially amplify his goal-scoring frequency in the latter part of the campaign. However, the primary concern revolves around Wilson’s injury record, has already missed 14 games this season and currently nursing a calf injury.

While Wilson is expected to return before the end of January, the looming question is which club he will represent. Newcastle appears inclined to offload him, presenting an opportunity for Arsenal and United to secure a proven Premier League striker. However, both clubs face Financial Fair Play issues, and cautious spending might be a factor in their decision-making process.
