“I doubted his potentials from the first day I met him” – Postecoglou calls out Spurs player over his perceived lack of football skills

Earlier this month, Spurs defender Djed Spence completed a loan move to Genoa, following a stint at Leeds United in the first half of the season. Despite his prior loan, Leeds decided to send him back to Tottenham in January, raising questions about his discipline and professionalism.

According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou reportedly harboured doubts about Spence “from their first meeting.” Postecoglou, aiming for the player to gain regular first-team experience, suggested a loan move, but Spence reportedly reacted negatively.

The Australian manager felt that the 23-year-old defender was not a suitable fit for his Tottenham squad. While Spence showcased his talents in the Championship before joining Tottenham, his future with the North London club appears uncertain. The report hints at Postecoglou’s scepticism about Spence’s compatibility with the team, prompting the loan move.

It remains to be seen if the defender can revive his career through consistent playing time in Italy with Genoa. Should Spence make a positive impact at Genoa, there might be an opportunity for him to secure a noteworthy transfer away from Tottenham at the end of the season.

However, it seems unlikely that he has a future with the North London club, emphasizing the need for the 23-year-old to address any attitude concerns to succeed at the highest level and establish himself as a top-class performer in the Premier League. Whether Spence can redirect his career trajectory will be a storyline worth monitoring in the coming months.
