“Only Arsenal believed in my talented and accepted me when I was rejected” – Talented goalkeeper narrates his career experience with Arsenal

Lille goalkeeper Vito Mannone recently shared insights into his career, highlighting his early stint with Arsenal. In August 2005, Mannone, a promising talent from FC Atalanta U19s, joined Arsenal for €500,000. Despite spending eight years with the Gunners, he permanently moved to Sunderland in 2013.

During his Arsenal tenure, Mannone had loan spells at clubs like Barnsley and Hull, amassing only 23 appearances across all competitions. Despite not securing a first-choice role, Mannone harbors no bitterness and appreciates Arsenal for believing in him when others didn’t. Reflecting on his departure from Serie A, Mannone remarked that he chose Arsenal over staying in the youth ranks due to the faith they showed in him.

Mannone acknowledges that his departure from Italy was driven by a lack of belief in his abilities. He expressed gratitude for Arsenal’s support, emphasizing the importance of encountering someone who believes in you. Despite not making a Serie A appearance, Mannone went on to achieve success in his career. While the call from Italy never materialized, he remains reflective, expressing a sense of regret for the opportunity that never came his way.
