Manchester United is expressing interest in acquiring Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise in the upcoming summer transfer window, as reported by the Evening Standard. The club, under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is planning a significant squad overhaul to strengthen its attacking capabilities.
Although a move for Olise in the current January transfer window has been ruled out, INEOS, the club’s new ownership group, has no intentions of making major signings this month. This is due to the ongoing process of ratifying Ratcliffe’s 25% acquisition of Manchester United by the Premier League. However, plans for summer transfers are already in motion, with the Palace star identified as a top target.
Last summer, Olise came close to leaving Selhurst Park but ultimately signed a four-year contract extension in August. His new deal includes a release clause set to take effect in the summer, with its exact value undisclosed. However, it is anticipated to surpass the £35 million release clause in his previous contract.
Olise has garnered admiration from INEOS for his well-rounded performances since joining the Eagles. The 22-year-old has been prolific, contributing five goals and one assist in nine league games this season, following his involvement in 13 league goals last season.
Even Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Olise in March, acknowledging the threat posed by Palace’s attacking trio, which includes Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze. Guardiola expressed admiration for their composure and attacking prowess.
Manchester United aims to bolster its attacking lineup to regain its status as a formidable force. Pairing Olise with Alejandro Garnacho in the final third is seen as a potentially devastating combination for opposing defences. Manager Erik Ten Hag is expected to consider additional attacking targets, and the prospect of having top finishers in the squad next season could contribute to the club’s resurgence if Ten Hag remains at the helm beyond this season.
