Liverpool & Chelsea transfer target to be surprisingly made available in major squad overhaul

Liverpool and Chelsea could both be paying close attention to developments at Barcelona after reports emerged that new head coach Hansi Flick is prepared to let Ronald Araujo leave as part of a major squad rebuild.

The Uruguayan defender has been one of Barcelona’s most important players in recent seasons and was widely viewed as a cornerstone of their back line. However, the situation appears to have changed under Flick.

According to reports, the German coach does not see Araujo as a long-term fit for his project, which could open the door for a potential exit.

This would come as welcome news for several Premier League clubs, particularly Liverpool and Chelsea, who have been linked with the centre-back in the past. As previously mentioned in the Daily Briefing, both clubs have admired Araujo for some time, and fresh reports from Fichajes suggest Barcelona may now be willing to listen to offers.

Barcelona are currently overloaded with defensive options, and Flick is believed to be keen on reshaping the squad to better suit his tactical ideas.

In that context, allowing Araujo to move on could benefit all parties. For the player, a transfer elsewhere might provide the opportunity for more consistent minutes and a fresh challenge, allowing him to rediscover his best form and continue his development at a high level.

When it comes to Liverpool, Araujo’s profile makes him an especially interesting option. The Reds have shown signs of vulnerability at the back this season and are no longer as defensively dominant as they were in previous campaigns.

Virgil van Dijk remains a key figure, but he is approaching the later stages of his career, and Liverpool will soon need to think seriously about a long-term successor. There are also concerns surrounding Ibrahima Konaté, who is edging closer to the final stages of his contract and has struggled to consistently hit top form this season. Bringing in a defender of Araujo’s quality and experience could help Liverpool refresh their defensive unit while preparing for the future.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are also in the market for defensive reinforcements. Reports from the Telegraph suggest the Blues are actively looking to add a centre-back in the January transfer window, and Araujo could fit the bill perfectly if he becomes available. Chelsea’s defence has lacked stability, with the team often relying on Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.

While Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana are highly rated, both have suffered recurring injury issues, limiting their availability and consistency.

Given these circumstances, a move for Araujo would make sense for Chelsea as they look to strengthen their squad and add a reliable, top-level defender. Overall, if Barcelona do decide to offload the Uruguayan, Liverpool and Chelsea are well placed to emerge as serious contenders for his signature.
