“It is very unfortunate, our win could have helped us in the title race against Arsenal” – Jurgen Klopp laments 2-2 draw with Manchester United

Jürgen Klopp expressed disappointment over Liverpool’s draw against Manchester United, asserting they “should have won” and even hinted at supporting their rivals against Arsenal after relinquishing the lead in the Premier League title race.

Following a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, where Arsenal is set to visit on the penultimate weekend of the season, Liverpool found themselves trailing behind Mikel Arteta’s team due to goal difference. Klopp criticized United’s performance and his team’s errors, suggesting that Arsenal would capitalize on such a display if repeated.

Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, likened the draw to a defeat despite their dominance and 28 shots on goal. Although Luis Díaz put Liverpool ahead, goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, along with Mohamed Salah’s late penalty, ended the match in a stalemate.

With seven matches remaining, both Arsenal and Liverpool sit one point ahead of Manchester City. Klopp, reflecting on their FA Cup elimination at Old Trafford last month, was asked if he would root for United against Arsenal. He acknowledged the quality of Arsenal’s team and warned that if United performed similarly to their recent game, Arsenal would emerge victorious.

While Liverpool’s goal difference trails Arsenal’s by nine, Klopp downplayed its significance, emphasizing the importance of overall performance over the course of the season. Despite relinquishing the top spot, Klopp remains optimistic about Liverpool’s position in the title race, acknowledging the unpredictability and competitiveness of the league.

Van Dijk lamented Liverpool’s missed opportunities in the first half and highlighted the impact of individual mistakes, such as Jarell Quansah’s error leading to Fernandes’s equalizer. Despite the setback, he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and navigate through the challenges ahead.
