“We had to separate them before the tensions escalated” – Kai Havertz vents his annoyance at a Sports journalist over controversial question regarding his teammate after the 2-1 victory over Brentford

Kai Havertz displayed signs of frustration as he faced yet another inquiry regarding his optimal position, expressing his weariness at repeatedly fielding the same question. Despite his exasperation, the Arsenal star delivered a late decisive goal to propel his team to victory over Brentford, momentarily securing the top spot in the Premier League. Havertz’s impact has steadily intensified since his transition from Chelsea, albeit amid initial criticism for his sluggish start.

A primary challenge he encountered was the lack of consistency in his role on the field. Mikel Arteta experimented with deploying Havertz in various positions before settling on him as a false nine. While his versatility is undoubtedly an asset, it has also been a point of contention, yet Havertz remains steadfast in his refusal to confine himself to a single position.

During an interview with Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp, Havertz reiterated his stance on his preferred role, albeit with a tinge of frustration: “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve addressed this question. I simply relish the opportunity to contribute on the pitch. I’m not confined to a specific position.

Sometimes it works in my favor, sometimes it doesn’t, but it suits me well. I thrive in this team environment. I’m comfortable playing as a false nine, as an eight, as a No. 10, wherever I’m needed. Back in Germany, I even played as a left-back, so I’m adaptable.”

Despite enduring a goal-scoring drought for several weeks, Havertz has now surpassed his previous season’s goal tally with Chelsea. He is currently experiencing a purple patch, evident from his decisive goal against Brentford and recent strikes against Newcastle and Sheffield United.

Initially met with skepticism from Arsenal fans, Havertz has gradually won over the Emirates faithful, with chants of his name echoing throughout the stadium—a transformation that Arteta acknowledges would have seemed improbable earlier in the season.

Reflecting on Havertz’s reception, Arteta expressed his delight: “I’m thrilled. If you had told me after the first few months that the entire stadium would resonate with his name with such fervor and unity, it would have been difficult to believe. But that’s the effect of a good person and an exceptional player.”

Arsenal clinched their second late victory of the season against Brentford, with Havertz sealing the win with a goal in injury time. As they bask in their triumph, the Gunners will keenly observe the Sunday showdown between their title rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool.
